 | Intercepted BlackBerry messages show that Desjardins and Montagna were rivals in the mob power struggles that erupted during the time Vito Rizzuto was serving a sentence in the US for racketeering. Desjardins complained to his men that Montagna’s crew was encroaching on their bookmaking, loan-sharking and protection rackets. Desjardins pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in July, 2015. Seven other defendants also pleaded guilty to lesser charges the following spring. |  |
