Notorious Russian serial killer dubbed 'The Werewolf' - Mikhail Popkov

Notorious serial killer and sex maniac Mikhail 'The Werewolf' Popkov has been charged with 25 new murders of women, bringing his total to 47.

Popkov is already serving a life sentence for 22 murders of female victims and has confessed to an additional 25 for which investigators say they now have hard evidence. They are still seeking to find definite proof of an additional dozen murders to which he has admitted.

Former Russian policeman Mikhail Popkov raped then killed his victims with axes, knives or screwdrivers between 1992 and 2007.
Police believe it is likely his eventual total will exceed that of his sinister idol, the worst-ever Soviet serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, AKA the Butcher of Rostov, who was convicted of 53 murders. His total is likely also more than maniac Alexander Pichushkin, known as the Chessboard Killer, who killed 49.

Police sources indicate that his total death toll could be 61. Popkov gave lifts in his police car to many of his victims
