Six men, including Alberino (Rino) Magi, 49, the brother of a real estate entrepreneur, Tony Magi, who was business partners with Nick (The Ritz) Rizzuto before the latter was murdered in December 2009, are expected to be extradited.

At various points in 2014, Canada’s justice minister ordered the extradition of Rino Magi, Vijayakumar Ramakrishnan, Paul Ifejeh, Marc Dash, Kevin Spencer Power, and Van Wade Bedford. All of the men were indicted in California in 2007.

The group were alleged to have called elderly people in the U.S. and Canada and falsely claimed the victims had won cash prizes. The fraudsters told the victims they would have to pay a fee in order to receive their winnings. The RCMP alleged the telemarketers called 500 people a week and estimated the network made between $8 million and $13 million over roughly three years.

Nick Rizzuto was the son of deceased Montreal Mob boss Vito Rizzuto. The younger Rizzuto was gunned down near Tony Magi’s business offices in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in a case that has never been solved. The ringleader of the telemarketing ring, John Bellini, 52, of Montreal, was sentenced to an 87-month prison term in 2011 after pleading guilty to charges in a U.S. District Court in California.
