Police bust California-to-Canada cocaine ring

12 people are accused of being part a drug ring that smuggled cocaine via commercial trucks into Waterloo Region from Los Angeles. The take-down included police seizing a tractor-trailer which contained nearly 35 kilograms of cocaine. It was not the first time the tractor-trailer had been inspected. The truck had been stopped at the Fort Erie border crossing in January, on the belief that it might be carrying drugs in a hidden compartment beneath its floor.
At that time no drugs were found – but officials were able to corroborate other information they had learned about the alleged smuggling activity.
A total of 12 people were arrested while police seized 38.5 kilograms of cocaine, five “high-end vehicles” and approximately $15,000.
