UK Drug Baron James Mulvey jailed for 32 years

James Mulvey, 41, was found guilty of two charges of conspiracy to import cocaine and two charges of conspiracy to import cannabis following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. He has been jailed for 32 years.

Mulvey was involved in transporting industrial rollers containing large quantities of cocaine and cannabis between the Netherlands and Ireland. Five defendants were jailed for a total of 88 years for their roles.
Mulvey, who controlled the conspiracy using pre-pay mobile phones, was not tried with his co-defendants because he had fled to Spain. He denied any involvement but covert recordings sunk him. A shipment of 20kg of cocaine, 364kg of cannabis and 10kg of cutting agent was seized. It is estimated that over 15 trips in total, up to £68 million in drugs were smuggled through the route.
