Waterloo Police seize $750,000 in drugs, cash, property

Waterloo Regional Police have seized just under $500,000 in drugs, including carfentanil, luxury vehicles and nearly $250,000 in cash. The police investigation, called Project Variance, led to the arrest of five people — four from Kitchener and one man from Cambridge. They were arrested on June 28 and all but one remain in custody.

Assets seized included 2 Mercedes-Benz, two Audis, two Harley-Davidson motorcycles and two dirt bikes.Police seized 468 grams of fentanyl and carfentanil, 3 kg of meth, along with other drugs. Five people face charges of trafficking. They are Mark Lucas, 31, Trevor Imeson, 43, Kimberly Murphy, 36, Michael Tughan, 30, all of Kitchener, and Patrick Lane, 33, of Cambridge.
In 2015, there were 189 overdoses in Waterloo Region. That number climbed to 398 in 2016 and soared to 767 in 2017.
