The FBI has warned banks in the U.S. of an impending cybercrime, a heist called an "ATM cash-out." In an 'unlimited operation', cybercriminals deploy malware to obtain bank customer card information and network access in a way to execute massive ATM thefts. The FBI said cybercriminals could attempt to amass millions of dollars within a few hours. This kind of attack usually targets small and medium-sized banks because they tend to have less security. That was the case in a series of attacks on Virginia’s National Bank of Blacksburg. Hackers stole $2.4 million from ATMs around the country in two separate attacks on the bank. |
