Federal government grants $71.7m to fight B.C.’s opioid crisis

The federal government is giving BC $71.7m. The announcement comes after Ontario said it would halt the opening of new consumption sites. The moratorium was condemned by more than 100 health groups, who said the move was putting lives at risk. The feds are prepared to share it's data showing that the sites work.
Since B.C. declared a medical emergency in April 2016, 2,895 people have died. 1,422 British Columbians died in 2017. March 2018 was the worst month ever in British Columbia with 162 fatal overdoses.
