Rizzuto unfairly targeted because of family name; defence

The charges Leonardo Rizzuto faces are related to a police seizure of two handguns and five grams of cocaine inside his home in November 2015. At the time, cops were making a series of busts in Project Magot, a long investigation into organized crime and cocaine trafficking. Lawyers representing Rizzuto argued that the warrant used to search Rizzuto’s home in Laval should be quashed because police had no reason to suspect Rizzuto at all. “Allow me to address the elephant in the room” defence counsel argued. “Mr. Rizzuto has a notorious family name. Perhaps you have heard of his father?”
It is generally accepted that Leonardo Rizzuto, along with Rocco Sollecito's son, Stefano Sollecito, are the heads of the Rizzuto mafia in Montreal.
