Surrey Police Board - Harley Chappell buddies with HA - update III

Former RCMP Deputy Commissioner Brenda Butterworth-Carr has adruptly resigned for 'an unanticipated personal and family matter'.

She was responsible for supervising the new Surrey Police Service. The appointment of Semiahmoo First Nation Chief Harley Chappell to the Surrey Police Board was under her watch. She has deeply embarrassed the NDP government and caused tongues to continue to wag. Chappell has refused to resign.
She was subject of a criminal investigation into obstruction of justice. The investigation is examining the role of senior Mounties for their role in the aftermath of the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver International Airport in 2007.
The local Surrey paper calls for the resignation of Harley Chappell from his position, and failing that his forced removal from the Surrey Police Board. (HERE) He is chairman of the governance committee, and removal is necessary to maintain public trust.

The community paper says that Chappell should fall on his sword for the public good and permit the board to turn the page and move on. It is a matter of public perception. The longer he refuses to recognize the obvious, the more damage will be done to the new police force. The paper states the obvious ... "All said, the province should have been on top of this matter during its vetting process." Costs of the new Surrey Police force have tripled from intial estimates.
Despite denials from Chappell of complete and total HA ignorance, he has a Facebook connection with at least one full patch member of the Hells Angels West Point chapter who posted a comment on Chappell’s page in July.

Harley Chappell played his first nation's card with great public vigor in March "The chief of the Semiahmoo First Nation says he's disappointed Surrey's mayor hasn't contacted him to discuss the city's transition from the RCMP to a municipal police force." HERE

Harley Chappell is the Chief of the Semiahmoo First Nations. His father was a Hells Angel. Chappell was appointed by the provincial government to the Surrey Police Board as part of the transition in Surrey from the RCMP to a new municipal force.

Mike Farnworth PSSG.Minister@gov.bc.caThe B.C. Public Safety Ministry said that it's community appointments came after “an extensive assessment and screening process.” Why then is a man with connections to the largest OMG in the world getting unlimited access to policing information? The heavily tatooed Chappell's appearance LOOKS for all the world like a 'wannabe' biker.
