Record year for cocaine at port of Rotterdam

Dutch customs seized more than 1.6 tonnes of cocaine hidden in 3 shipments of bananas, cocoa beans and cement in the port of Rotterdam. Estimated street value is €127 million. Europe's largest port has confiscated a record 68 tonnes of cocaine this year, up from 49 tonnes in 2020. The Netherlands and Belgium are becoming major hubs for cocaine, especially for consignments from Colombia according to Europol. The North Sea coast has "overtaken the Iberian peninsula as the main entry point for cocaine into Europe", said a report in September.
