5 Prince George cops charged in death of Dale Culver


Dale Culver was a father of three. He died July 18, 2017.
Const. Paul Ste-Marie and Const. Jean Francois Monette are facing manslaughter charges. Const. Arthur Dalman, Const. Clarence (Alex) Alexander MacDonald and Sgt. Bayani (Jon) Eusebio Cruz are facing charges of attempting to obstruct justice. Dale Culver was a member of the Wet'suwet'en and Gitxsan First Nations

“While attempting to take the man into custody, a struggle ensued between him and the officer and additional officers then arrived. OC (pepper) spray was used,” the IIO said in a May 2020 media release. Dale Culver was 35 when he died in 2017 after the encounter.
Cops are due for a first appearance at Prince George provincial court on March 14.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC, IIO, recommended charges in 2020.Following Culver’s death, the B.C. Civil Liberties Association said eyewitnesses said that Culver “was taken forcibly to the ground by RCMP members immediately after exiting a liquor store, apparently unprovoked.” The association said there were “troubling allegations'” that RCMP members told witnesses to delete cellphone video that they had taken.
