Greg Dunn – corrupt Calgary lawyer

There is a ‘go to’ name for major criminals to turn to after getting busted in Alberta and that is Greg Dunn. He bills himself as ‘managing and founding partner of Dunn & Associates, Mr. Dunn is a U of A graduate who has been practicing law since 1998.’ Here. Dunn’s track record of trying to get serious traffickers off is biblical. He’s made an entire career of it, for over 25 years.

Tip of that iceberg is Talal Fouani. He admitted to laundering money for organized crime and he failed to see his charges stayed despite the case taking more than 30 months to wind its way through the courts and the eloquence of his dirty lawyer Greg Dunn. The delays were caused by defense lawyers, including 14 applications filed by Fouani’s previous lawyer, Yoav Niv. “I have spent half a million to get here I have no more money,’ Talal Fouani whined. ‘My mental health is depleted.’

Talal Fouani – “I’m at a stage of a mental breakdown.”
Fouani said he was too poor and can no longer pay for lawyers. “I don’t even have a bank account, I can’t get Legal Aid, I can’t do anything in this country anymore,” he said.

That was surely more bullshit because Greg Dunn doesn’t weave his magic for free. Talal Fouani was busted after Alberta cops seized an estimated $55m in drugs in a huge cross-border investigation. Project Cobra began in 2020 and was a joint effort between the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), RCMP and the DEA.

928 kg of meth and 6 kg of cocaine were seized as a result of the three-year investigation. $7m worth of assets were seized or placed under criminal restraint, including 11 vehicles and two mansions. Nineteen firearms were seized, including handguns, rifles, submachine guns and suppressors. Frequent flyer Ricco King, 52, faced five charges and walked again. 15 people and one business (Fouani Equity Funds Ltd.) were charged with 80 criminal offences.

King was the ringleader of the group. He beat a charge of drug trafficking, three counts of participating in a criminal organization and two counts of laundering proceeds of a crime. King was previously busted for attempting to import cocaine in 2016. HERE. Those charges were stayed due to unreasonable delay.

Fouani and his wife were shot in their Bentley outside their upscale Calgary home in 2022. Fouani survived, but his wife, Nakita Baron, 31, did not. A week after the killing, Michael Tyrel Arnold, 34, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. The killer cried on the stand in February 2025. His story was that he “panicked” while attempting to carjack the couple’s Bentley. “I’m a fucked up person” Arnold sniffed with gusto for jurors.

The fact was he was a contract killer, hired to kill Fouani. Michael Arnold, 37, was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Nakita Baron and attempted murder of Talal Fouani.

Arnold’s murder conviction means he will face a life sentence. The sentence for the attempted murder conviction will be served concurrently. Prosecutors asked the judge to impose an 18-year sentence for the attempted murder and a 20-year parole ineligibility period. The judge will deliver her decision in October.
