Spirit of Johnny Stompanato Jr. haunts graveyard

Some say Oakland Cemetery is chock full of the paranormal. Oakland Cemetery was established in 1859 and holds dozens of children from the Chicago Industrial Home for Children.

The children mysteriously died between 1894 and 1926. Also resting there is Johnny Stompanato Jr., a bodyguard and enforcer for crime boss Mickey Cohen and the Cohen crime family.
Johnny Stompanato, renowned for his violent temper, soon abused film star Lana Turner. Her teenaged daughter fatally stabbed Stompanato to death in 1958.
Its said that people standing near his gravesite have reported suddenly feeling abrasive energy and becoming angry or irritable for no reason.

Aaron Shamo = Life - revisited

This appeared in 2020.

Suburban millennial Aaron Shamo was convicted of being a drug kingpin and was sent to prison for life.
Mormon college dropout Aaron Shamo, 29, made himself a millionaire by building a fentanyl trafficking empire in his spare time with little more than his computer. Shamo called himself a 'white-collar drug dealer' who was helping people get the drugs they needed. His attorney called him a fool and his primary defence was that he isn’t smart enough to be a drug kingpin. Shamo flooded the US with half a million fake oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl.
On the stand at trial Shamo rambled about how customers wrote thank you notes because doctors refused to prescribe painkillers. He said it was “a win-win situation” — he got rich and his customers got drugs. Ruslan Klyuev died in his bedroom with an envelope from Shamo at his feet. Shamo was charged in connection to that overdose death, but when investigators scoured his list of customers they said dozens more were also dead. His was the only death with which Shamo would be charged.
The DEA estimates a kilogram of fentanyl purchased for a few thousand dollars from China could make a dealer more than $1 million. “Any moron can basically become a major drug kingpin by dealing in fentanyl.” Shamo's business boomed. He hired a personal assistant. He stuffed a duffel bag with $429k cash and asked his parents to hold it. He bragged to friends about gambling in Las Vegas. He shopped for real estate in Puerto Rico; sipped champagne on a cruise ship; bought designer clothes, a boat and expensive cars.
Shamo penned a note: “I am Shamo. I am awesome. My friends love me. I created an empire.”
On Nov. 22, 2016 Federal agents raided Shamo’s home. They found more than $1.2m in cash. They seized another $800k from one of his associates. Shamo’s other ex-partners and packagers pleaded guilty and agreed to testify. Aaron Shamo was convicted of 12 counts including the 'kingpin charge' that is usually reserved for drug lords like El Chapo. It carries a mandatory life sentence. The jury deadlocked on the death of Ruslan Klyuev.

HA Andrew Lamositele-Brown claims Flatbush murder an accident - guilty

Former Melbourne HA bikie boss Andrew Lamositele-Brown, 40, has been found guilty of murder of Auckland prospect Petau Petau. He was expelled from Australia as a 501 deportee months before. Lamositele-Brown blamed a mystery man (who he refused to identify) who had given him a gun that was loaded.

It took jurors in the High Court at Auckland less than an hour to reject the biker's tale.
Lamositele-Brown, otherwise known as Andrew Tovia Fepuleai, began his jury trial in the High Court at Auckland 2 weeks ago. He claimed that he unintentionally triggered a handgun while showing it off to his good friend Petau Petau, freezing in shock as he collapsed in the following mayhem. The cop standoff lasted 7 hours.
Prosecutors told a starkly different scenario of a mad killer out of control.

Gangster moll Owl has evil intent - on borrowed time

Burnaby's gangster owl has crossed the Rubicon with an attack on a toddler. "The owl scratched my son's face and scalp, missing his eye by mere millimetres, It could have taken out his eye." The City of Burnaby has closed the trail at Squint Lake Park and contacted conservation. The owl's behaviour has no explanation as nesting season is over. It may need to be destroyed for public safety.
Locals in Burnaby are arming themselves with helmets and umbrellas against a silent menace terrorizing a Burnaby park. Users of Squint Lake Park at the foot of Burnaby Mountain have been targeted for silent airborne attacks by a mother owl. The fowl has staked out a corner of the park and to venture through it is to incur her significant wrath. Citizens complaining about the abuse cried to the province’s conservation officers. They focus on animals that are deadly. “They do not attend owl interactions” Experts say the bird is a barred owl and its aggressive behaviour will taper off. “They have young right now; they have owlets, so they’re being defensive,” The owlets are probably learning to fly nearby. Crossing a grouchy mother is never a good idea.

Mobster Vincent Asaro dead

Its 2017, and wise guy Vincent Asaro has been found guilty. For nearly 50 years mobster Vincent Asaro has escaped conviction on a huge array of criminal charges, having been accused — and then acquitted — of, among other things, strangling a man with a dog chain and taking part in the infamous Lufthansa heist in 1978. Now age 87, Asaro was sentenced to eight years in prison for what may be the pettiest allegation he ever faced: ordering his underlings to set fire to the car of a motorist who cut him off in traffic in Queens.

Vincent Asaro, center, with John Gotti.
Asaro held various positions in the Bonanno crime family, and he was a killer, but also involved in bookmaking, loan-sharking, extortion and robbing delivery trucks. He largely managed to avoid ever being punished. Asaro was acquitted at the Lufthansa trial. Judge Ross noted that, despite the jury’s verdict, she was “firmly convinced” that the feds had proved its case.
Gene Borrello was lauded by prosecutors for being a rat. John J. Gotti, the grandson of the late Gambino boss, pleaded guilty to being the getaway driver.
A federal judge granted Vincent Asaro's release in April 2020. His was a compassionate release from prison due to the coronavirus pandemic. Asaro’s age and his deteriorating health were “extraordinary and compelling” reasons for his release.
John J. Gotti robbed a bank weeks later and pulled 5 years.
Bonanno capo Vincent Asaro, 83, says eight years in prison is over the top for a conviction on ordering the 2012 torching of a car that cut him off. The aging gangster says he’s getting shafted. Asaro said the reason the prison term is so out of whack is that the judge wrongly weighed his 2015 acquittal in a trial where the feds tried linking him to a 1969 murder and the infamous 1978 Lufthansa heist. Asaro is pressing for the appeals court to make another judge available to re-sentence him. The prison term is about three times the length of federal guideline recommendations. Federal prosecutors asked for 15 years.

'Shrink' - Organized retail crime; Robert Dell

Unlike popular culture, shoplifting is often about organized crime, which steal and fence goods from retailers on huge scales. Home Depot busted one such ring with the help of cops. At the core was a man named Robert Dell, who operated a drug recovery program out of a church in St. Petersburg, Fla. He stole $1.4m of goods. Dell used his position as a pastor to coerce people into stealing, often hitting stores five times a day. Dell fenced goods on eBay under the "anointedliquidator" where he had 100% positive feedback and a 35,000 item history.
Dell and his crew were finally busted in August. Shrink, including shoplifting and retail crime, cost US retailers $94.5b in 2021, up from $90.8b in 2020. The number is expected to pass $110b for 2023. Target is closing nine stores across four states citing concerns about safety as retail crime increases.
Toronto cops say they have seen a rise in crimes targeting retail and some of it appears to be organized.
