Krazy Cherry Fruit – Harmandeep Singh Bahniwal

On August 23, 2025 news hit of a $12,207 WorkSafe B.C fine to Krazy Cherry Fruit Company Ltd. Two workers with the Oliver based cherry producer were instructed to use a mini excavator to demolish a building on April 9, 2025. The work was being conducted in a commercial orchard, where workers were putting the building debris into roll-off containers which were taken to the local landfill for disposal. Workers may have been exposed to asbestos all day.

WorkSafeBC termed it a ‘high risk’ violation of worker safety rules in B.C.

The inspectors said in the report dated April 10, 2025, the “employer did not have a qualified person inspect the building to identify if there was any hazardous material present.” Krazy Cherry not only failed to adequately train the workers for construction work, they also didn’t inform the workers of the safety provisions which are supposed to be in place for conducting demolition work.

“[We’re] saddened to see, after last year’s terrible farming year, why news like this is being broadcast rather than highlighting positive factors in building community support for farmers.”
