Last week Alberta Premier Danielle Smith joined the call of B.C. Premier Eby to label the Bishnoi group as terrorists. The leader of the India-based gang has been imprisoned in India for 11 years, but is still suspected of pulling strings of a transnational criminal network responsible for violence, extortion, drug trafficking and targeted killings. He has hundreds of soldiers. In the past decade some 50 cases have been registered against Punjab gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, 32. (born Balkaran Brar; 12 February 1993) The thug has accomplished this while lodged in jail since 2014. Bishnoi’s infamy is built on 3 killings. Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was whacked in 2022, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 in Surrey and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique in October 2024.
Never in solitary confinment, Bishnoi runs his network from inside jail using mobile calling applications. He calls his thugs abroad who connect to a henchman from his mobile so that Bishnoi’s mobile number or IP address is never revealed. This is called ‘Dubba Calling’. Bishnoi’s aide Sampat Nehra oversees operations in Haryana, while Goldy Brar oversaw operations outside India and in Punjab.
In 2018, Bishnoi hit national headlines with his threat to kill actor Salman Khan for poaching blackbuck. Salman Khan was acquitted by the Rajasthan High Court in the Jodhpur blackbuck and chinkara poaching cases of 1998. Bishnoi’s community considers the blackbuck sacred and Salma Khan remains a target of the gangster.

There is a new narrative on the execution of KTF boss Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Its said he was killed by Bishnoi thugs due to his homosexual affairs with young men, which some members of his community strongly opposed. Nijjar was being threatened by puritanical sections of the diaspora and had received a letter threatening to expose photos.
