6.5 years for US tobacco smuggler - contrebandier de tabac

It was reported tobacco was bought at about $3 a pound, sold to the processing plants for $10 a pound and then sold for $15 to $20 for 200 cigarette bundles.

Phil Caprice Howard, 55, was busted in the US in 2019. He admitted guilt last fall in a tobacco export scheme that lasted 9 years and cost Canadians hundreds of millions in unpaid taxes. Howard used middlemen who bought raw leaf from wholesale suppliers.

Local smugglers transferred it across the St Lawrence. Hells Angels then transported the product to cigarette factories on the Kahnawake Mohawk Reserve.

He then paid truckers to bring the cargo to the Akwesasne Mohawk Reserve.

The prosecution claimed losses of C$600m in federal and provincial taxes in Canada, caused by the 225 deliveries of tobacco. Prosecutors pointed out that organized crime groups are involved in the trade, not just the Mohawk. Globally, tobacco smuggling is huge. 338m smuggled cigarettes were seized at the port of Piraeus, Greece last week. The cigarettes represent 72m euros in lost duties and taxes. The 35 shipping containers labelled “food items” originated from Dubai. Counterfeit cigarettes are a low risk, high reward crime.

While conducting a search of two suspects on May 14, Surrey RCMP found a large bag of drugs sticking out of one man’s ass. When the bag was extracted, it contained 18 rocks of crack cocaine and 26 spitballs of powder cocaine weighing 9.05 and 14.05 grams. The reality is that gangsters live in constant fear of getting robbed or murdered by other criminals, or getting arrested. This is the reason they risk their lives by sticking large amounts of drugs into their rectums.

Liverpool drug dealer Zac Edgar, 24, thought it would be a great idea to rap about his cocaine selling prowess. In the video he claims he was "ducking undercovers bruv" and supplying "banging white to all your local nitties." When cops saw the video they began investigating him. Edgar was part of a major ring that moved mountains of cocaine. He was busted and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and was jailed for six years and three months.

£20m worth of cocaine was found in a van on the M6.

John Tobin, 40, and Alan Tobin, 51, sold huge amounts of drugs over four years to gangs around England, Wales and Scotland. Their operation was nailed when cops intercepted 187kg of cocaine on the M6.

The 2019 operation was the biggest UK land-based cocaine seizure at the time. Alan Tobin was jailed for 20 years while his brother was sentenced to 19 years and eight months at Liverpool Crown Court. Their henchmen also received long jail terms. Robbie Broughton, 39, received eight years and six months, Brian McQuillan, 51, six years and four months and Simon Leech, 30, was imprisoned for eight years.

Robbie Broughton was the muscle. He used his brawn to collect drug debts.

The brothers enjoyed a lavish lifestyle for years before problems arose as police targeted the gangs they were supplying drugs to. It resulted in "huge debts".

These weapons cost between $7,500 and $8,000 each. Norma Llamas Rodriguez, 47, lived in a trailer. It's 52 months in a federal prison for her. Her son also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
