US and allies accuse Chinese government of hacking

The Chinese government was the mastermind behind a series of malicious ransomware, data theft and cyber-espionage attacks. The sprawling Microsoft Exchange hack earlier this year was the work of Chinese state sponsored hackers. Their activities were linked to the hacker groups Advanced Persistent Threat 40 and Advanced Persistent Threat 31. The group of nations attributing the attack to China includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and NATO.
The U.S. charged four Chinese with the Ministry of State Security with a campaign to hack into computer systems of dozens of companies, universities and government entities in the U.S. and abroad between 2011 and 2018. The indictment alleges the hackers targeted, among other things, Ebola vaccine research.
China condemns “groundless accusations,” saying that tracing the source of cyberattacks is a “highly sensitive political issue.” China has long insisted that it is not a perpetrator but a victim of cyberattacks.

Purdue Pharma Sackler family - Oxy Cartel

After playing a role in the opioid overdose deaths of more than 400,000 Americans, Purdue Pharma’s Sackler family is about to cut a big cheque and walk away. To settle about 3,000 lawsuits involving more than 600,000 claimants, the Sacklers will pay $4.5b over a decade.
The Sacklers won't hold an interest in the 'new' Purdue Pharma but will walk away without jail time, despite being one of the largest and most profitable illicit drug dealers in history. The Sackler family members are collectively worth some $11b.
The Sacklers flooded North America with prescription painkillers. Authorities claim more than $4b was drained from the company over the past dozen years. The family used a complex chain of companies and trusts to control their holdings, some located in offshore tax havens. The Sacklers had an estimated net worth of $13 billion in 2016, making them America's 19th-richest family.

One of the students brought to Canada by Qiu was Feihu Yan, from the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Academy of Military Medical Sciences.
In early 2020 Chen Wei, a PLA major general, told Chinese state media that her team worked in Wuhan developing a "core technology that can be used against the COVID-19".
