Justice Paul Thomas O’Marra thinks treating an Ontario pervert who tried to buy sex from what he thought was 15 year old like a Canadian would be unfair.
Akashkumar Narendrakumar Khant, 30, was given a conditional discharge by the Justice to help him stay in Canada.
Khant immigrated to Canada from Gujarat, India, in 2019 to pursue a civil engineering degree. On December 13, 2023, the Peel Regional Police Human Trafficking Unit commenced Project Juno — an online investigation focused on perverts seeking sexual services from children. On the first day of the cop probe, Khant contacted a sex trade ad that was created by cops. Khant communicated with the undercover officer and was informed on several occasions during the conversation that she was 15. A deal was made for a “girlfriend experience,” which entailed both oral and vaginal intercourse for $140. Khant then attended the designated room, knocked on the door and was busted cold.
The Crown sought a 90-day custodial sentence, in line with other busted perps. A discharge, in their view, could undermine public confidence in the justice system. Justice O’Marra saw things differently, finding potential “collateral consequences” that gave the immigrant a full pass. In 2017 O’Marra received an annual salary of $283,439.31.
O’Marra was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in 2016 and is a career defense lawyer. Controversial decisions from O’Marra include a stay in a heroin possession case due to a delay in Crown disclosure, and tossing firearm and drug possession-related charges in another case citing Crown delays.
Justice Paul Thomas O’Marra is a shit terrible judge who ought not be in the position he’s in. Would a complaint to the Canadian Judicial Council and Chief Justice Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner do any good? Probably not, 97% of all compliants are tossed by a bureaucrat before being considered. Asshole judge O’Marra has ‘discretion’ says the CJC.
