HA Robert Barletta a hitman target - revisited

The date is March 30, 2020. Its possible the gunmen didn't recognize Barletta at first, who was sporting white sneakers, grey pants, a grey long-sleeved shirt and a black baseball cap as he passed the black Audi that had been parked on Ontario Street, just south of Gerard Street, for nearly four hours.

He unlatches the front-yard gate when two armed men spring from the vehicle. The first man gets out of the passenger seat and is holding guns in both hands as he runs toward Barletta. None of the nearly 20 shots fired hit their mark. No one was arrested.
Barletta’s narrow escape shows he has made dangerous enemies. It also raises questions about why cops have been tight-lipped about the incident. Its said Robert Bartletta has serious problems with rivals in his own group and rivals outside of the HAMC. Cops laid more gaming charges against Barletta and seven others, seizing another $24m of assets.
Barletta faced 15 charges including bookmaking, laundering proceeds of crime, fraud over $5,000 and commission of an offence for a criminal organization.

Ecuador undone as drug cartels exploit banana industry to ship cocaine

' Ecuador is the world’s largest exporter of bananas, shipping 6.5m metric tons a year. It is also an international shipment point for the world’s largest cocaine producers, Peru and Colombia. Violence has spread across Ecuador. Shootings, killings, kidnappings and extortions occur daily, particularly in the banana-shipping hub of Guayaquil. Cartels from Mexico, Colombia and the Balkans like Ecuador because it uses the U.S. dollar, has weak laws, and has gangs like Los Choneros eager for work.
4,570 kg of cocaine seized in the Port of Guayaquil, on October 16, 2021.
A record 2,304 metric tons of cocaine was produced in 2021 around the world, most in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. That year, nearly a third of the cocaine seized in Western and Central Europe came from Ecuador. Large drug busts have become more frequent. Within the past month, cops have made record-setting busts after inspecting containers carrying bananas from Ecuador. On Aug. 25 Spain announced its biggest cocaine haul ever: 9.5 metric tons hidden among boxes of bananas from Ecuador in a refrigerated container. Dutch cops made their country’s largest-ever cocaine seizure last month — nearly 8 metric tons in a container of Ecuadorian bananas. Authorities in Greece and Italy also announced large seizures of cocaine hidden in Ecuadorian bananas this year.
In 2022 exports were down to 354.6 million boxes of bananas, compared to 379.54 million boxes in 2021. The top three export markets are the European Union 26.35%, Russia with 23.43% and the Middle East with 15.28%.

Vincent 'Mad Dog' Coll

Vincent 'Mad Dog' Coll (Uinseann Ó Colla) was an Irish mob hitman in 1920s and 30s in New York. Coll's ruthlessness made him a valued enforcer to Dutch Schultz at first. On July 28, 1931, Coll unsuccessfully attempted to kidnap Joey Rao, a Dutch Schultz underling. The resulting shootout left a five year old child dead and several other children wounded. After this, New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker dubbed Coll 'Mad Dog.'

Coll retained famed defense lawyer Samuel Leibowitz. Leibowitz destroyed the credibility of the prosecution's main witness, George Brecht, a man who made a living as a witness at trials. In December 1931, Coll was acquitted. Dutch Schultz and Owney Madden put a $50k bounty on Vincent Coll's head. On February 1, 1932, five gunmen invaded a Bronx apartment which Coll was rumored to frequent and opened fire with pistols and submachine guns. Three were killed and three others wounded. Coll himself didn't show up until thirty minutes after the shooting.
A week after the Bronx shootings, Mad Dog Coll was using a phone booth in the London Chemists drug store at Eighth Avenue and 23rd Street. He was talking to Madden, demanding $50,000 from the gangster under the threat of kidnapping his brother-in-law. Madden kept Coll on the line while the call was traced.

Three men arrived in a dark limousine. While one waited behind the wheel, two others stepped out. One of them waited outside while the other walked inside, drew a Thompson submachine gun from under his overcoat and opened fire on Coll in the glass phone booth.

Coll's body is removed. A total of fifteen bullets were dug out of his body at the morgue.
The three men involved in Coll’s murder all met violent deaths. Leonard Scarnici was electrocuted at Sing Sing. Anthony Fabrizzo was murdered after a botched attempt on the life of "Bugsy" Siegel in 1932. Abraham "Bo" Weinberg vanished without a trace on Sept. 9, 1935, presumably killed by Schultz.

Wobbles the 500lb gangster - revisted

It was 2016 when 'Wobbles' the bloods gangster was nailed for selling 93 guns. He bought himself 15 years in a federal pen. He tried to appeal in 2020 but that failed miserably.

A 500-pound gangster who had his arraignment in a courthouse basement basement when he couldn't fit his wheelchair in the elevator last year has lost nearly 80 pounds since his arrest. William 'Wobbles' Soler, also dubbed 'Redrum' (murder backward), reportedly had some honey-roasted Planters peanuts nestled between his arm and his wheelchair. 'Have you seen him? Yes, he lost a lot of weight, definitely 60 to 80 pounds,' said Soler's lawyer Brian Sullivan
Despite his recent weight loss, the obese gangster had to enter through the side of the courtroom since his wheelchair does not fit in the door that inmates usually enter through. His lawyers and prosecutors spoke to a judge for several minutes before the case was adjourned.

Soler is facing 25 years in prison after allegedly plotting the murder of rival gang members and smuggling dozens of guns into New York City. Soler and his ring of gun runners reportedly bought 93 firearms on the streets of Westchester in New York state, Maine and Connecticut.
