1,300 kg of cocaine disguised as potatoes

Smugglers disguised cocaine as potatoes and frozen chips in Colombia. Cops seized 1,300 kg of cocaine. The shipment of refrigerated and vacuum-sealed cocaine simulating yuccas and Creole potatoes was destined for Spain. The drug was formed in irregular moulds simulating croquettes of cassava and papa criolla.

The mafia killer formerly known as Kenneth Murdock

The killer formerly known as Kenneth Murdock, 60, was sentenced to 13 years for three counts of second-degree murder and extortion after striking a plea deal that saw him take the stand to testify in a heavily guarded Hamilton courtroom in 1999. In court he said his bosses in the Musitano crime family ordered him to kill. In 1985 he used a machine gun on a man who failed to pay gambling debts. In 1987 he killed John “Johnny Pops” Papalia with a .38 slug to the back of his head. Two months later, he knocked on Carmen Barillaro's front door and shot him dead when he opened it.

He testified that Pasquale (Pat) Musitano and his younger brother, Angelo, were behind the killings. According to Murdock, the Musitano brothers were fed up with having to pay tribute to the Buffalo crime family. The Musitanos were each sentenced to 10 years and released on parole in 2006. After serving 13 years of his life sentence, Murdock was released on full parole. In 2017 he was returned to prison after two posts on social media. Given another chance, he was ordered to stay off booze and to reside at a specific place approved by Corrections Canada for six months.

Hollyboob stunt falls flat

American influencer Julia Rose was among half a dozen people arrested after changing the iconic Hollywood sign to read Hollyboob in 2021. The founder of the adult magazine Shagmag offered shifting reasons for the publicity stunt.

Rose made headlines when she was banned indefinitely by Major League Baseball after flashing one of the 2019 World Series players.

Cosimo Di Lauro, top Camorra boss dies in jail

Cosimo Di Lauro, 48, who was sentenced to life in Opera prison in Milan, was said to be one of the most ruthless and cold-hearted bosses in the Camorra mafia. The group is based in Naples. The crime boss, who was found dead in his cell, was the son of infamous mafioso Paolo Di Lauro, who is serving a 30-year sentence for drug trafficking. A split in the Camorra family took place after Cosimo took over from his father, leading to a war between clans that took over 150 lives. "He died as a wretch. Yet he was very rich. May God have mercy on you and on your wicked life." Cosimo is said to have inspired the hit series Gomorrah, which ended last year after five seasons.

The Macri brothers

Domenic Macri, 46, was whacked in February. His brother Mario, 44, was killed on March 13, 2018, also in LaSalle. Both homicides remain unsolved. The brothers had close ties to both the Montreal Mafia and the West End Gand. The Macri brothers were connected to Pietro D’Adamo, 51, a man arrested in 2006 as part of Project Colisée. D’Adamo was charged with conspiracy to bring 1,300 kilos of cocaine into Canada. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and gangsterism charges and was sentenced to six years. D'Adamo was warned by the cops as he went to visit then boss Stefano Sollecito that his name appears on a list of Desjardins enemies.

Heinous influencer Oceane El Himer busted

French model and reality TV star Oceane El Himer, 27, uploaded Instagram photos of herself in the plush surroundings of a first class cabin on a flight from Dubai to Monaco last year. Truth was she was full of shit and was really booked in coach with the rest of the unwashed peons.

John 'Goldfinger' Palmer

The unsolved murder of John 'Goldfinger' Palmer has nearly reached the 7 year mark. The Essex gang boss gained his 'Goldfinger' moniker after being acquitted of handling bullion from the £26m Brink's-Mat raid in 1983. Palmer died after being shot six times on June 24, 2015. A gunman shot the gangster three times from point-blank range and then three more times in the back as the 64-year-old lay on the ground. A mortally wounded Palmer walked a short distance towards his house before collapsing.

The week of his death he was busted in a wide ranging fraud. The underworld believed Palmer was offering information on other criminals.

Once described as the richest mobster in the UK, Palmer left a long trail of corpses in his wake. Cops believed that virtually all of his £300m fortune came from swindles, violence, racketeering and money laundering.

'Richard' Castro became a senior leader in Frente 30 in 2011.

Martín Leonel Pérez Castro, 51, was arraigned in Brooklyn on June 10. Castro was a senior leader of Frente 30, a wing of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia — FARC. US prosecutors said Castro’s insurgents taxed coca growers and paste processors and levied fees on traffickers who carried finished cocaine out of Colombia.

In exchange, Castro protected coca farmers and manufacturers from theft and helped move the final product. Castro’s soldiers waged war against other drug operations in Colombia and attempted to shoot down aircraft engaged in eradicating the coca crops. Before Castro was arrested in 2014, Colombian officials said he controlled 60% of FARC’s cocaine trafficking. Castro is only being prosecuted for narcotics and firearms violations committed before FARC and the Colombian government forged a peace deal. Cops blew up a laboratory for processing cocaine base seized from FARC in the municipality of Puerto Concordia, Meta department, Colombia, on Jan. 25, 2011.

Conflict in Montreal Mafia approaching

The revelation that mob boss Stefano Sollecito has lost favor with his cohorts at the top table coincides with cop warnings that the return of Raynald Desjardins has triggered a war. The Sicilian clan and that of Desjardins have both been decimated by dozens of settlings of scores since 2004. There is no way they can live in peace now according to cops. Desjardins was brought back behind bars for having violated the conditions of his parole. Cops have warned him twice that plots for his death are afoot. Private security around Leonardo Rizzuto and Stefano Sollecito has been reinforced in recent months. Both men have been warned by cops, with Sollecito being a prime target.

Gang leader Gregory Woolley, an ally of the Sicilians of the Rizzuto clan, was also told by cops to be on his guard. He was charged in 2015 with conspiracy to kill Desjardins. Rounding out the cop warnings is to Vittorio Mirarchi, a rising star in the Calabrian mafia clan. He was found guilty, like Desjardins, for plotting the murder of would-be godfather Salvatore Montagna in 2011.

HA David James Bishop misunderstood - redux

It was 2017 when Hells Angel David James Bishop was busted on drug and weapons charges in a police raid at his home in Cole Harbour. Bishop was one of three arrested after police searched his residence and seized drugs, OMG paraphernalia, two guns and ammunition. One of the weapons, a .38 handgun, was loaded. On March 22, cops attended the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility and arrested David James Bishop, 39.

Bishop has been charged with a bible of offences this time around.

Bishop has breached multiple firearms prohibition orders.

Mostafa Baluch - ready to wheel and deal

Mostafa Baluch was arrested by cops in a sting on the NSW/Queensland border after his underworld colleagues turned. The fugitive spent 16 days on the run.

Former fugitive drug lord Mostafa Baluch was caught trying to flee Oz cops in a Mercedes parked inside a shipping container last year. He has begun discussing a plea deal. Baluch remains remanded in custody.Cops had stopped the truck as it crossed the border and searched the container on the back of the vehicle, where they located the 'shocked and surprised' drug dealer.

Oz cops have more than 1,000 pages of messages that were sent by Mostafa Baluch. The self-declared gangster bragged extensively about moving hundreds of kilograms of drugs and building a property empire while using encrypted messaging app ANOM. Cops say they are closing in on Baluch.

Mostafa Baluch cut off his tracking device and fled from his $4m home in Sydney days after he got bail on a 900kg cocaine bust. Baluch was swept up in June as part of the AN0M raids. His home is now being seized by authorities. The fugitive faces life in an Australian jail.

Gitans de Sherbrooke enforce scooter colours - Mikael Bibeau

Mikael Bibeau, 26, has been released after he thought he would enforce some street justice on an elderly scooter driver who had the gall to wear a black online gambling leather jacket that resembled the HA puppet club's colours. Cops busted the tuffy, who was driving an Audi A4 when he cut off the scooter driver on the sidewalk. Brass knuckles and HA gang gear was seized at his home. The goof has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and hit and run. According to cops, the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal organization.

The Sherbrooke HA chapter was founded from a group called the Gitans (Gypsys) in 1984.

Brothers Sylvain and François Vachon have long been associated with upper management of the Sherbrooke HA.

Spanish operation takes down corrupt police and customs officers

The Spanish Civil Guard and National Police have dismantled a drug trafficking network which relied on corrupt cops and customs officers to ship hundreds of millions of euros worth of cocaine and hashish into Western Europe. 61 were arrested, including five officers from the Civil Guard, one from the National Police and one from customs. ‘Clan de Tanger’ and ‘Clan del Sur’ are believed to have smuggled over 16 tonnes of cocaine and 150 tonnes of hashish via the Strait of Gibraltar into Spain for distribution across Europe. The drugs were hidden among shipments of tomatoes, watermelons and melons. The groups were operating around the Port of Algeciras.

Gov. Gavin Newsom will not release Sirhan Sirhan, the man convicted of killing Sen. Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. Sirhan Sirhan, 77, told the California Parole Board at this 16th bid for freedom that he wanted to live in peace. Sirhan has served 53 years.

Robert Kennedy was shot on June 5, 1968. He died the next day at age 42.

Sirhan’s shifting narrative about his assassination of Kennedy is seen as refusal to accept responsibility. RFK was a Democratic presidential candidate when he was gunned down at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles moments after delivering a victory speech in a California primary. Sirhan, a Palestinian from Jordan, was angry at Kennedy for his support of Israel. Juan Romero was a busboy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles and went to Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s aid.
