'Dapper' Danny Hogan

Daniel P. Hogan 1905 Age 22
"Dapper" Danny Hogan (ca. 1880 - December 4, 1928) was a charismatic underworld figure and boss of Saint Paul, Minnesota's Irish Mob during Prohibition. His connections to cops of the deeply corrupt St. Paul Police Department made him hugely rich. Police Chief John "The Big Fellow" O'Connor of Saint Paul allowed criminals to operate in the city as long as they checked in with police, paid a small bribe and promised not to kill, kidnap, or rob within city limits. St. Paul was a safe haven for gangsters from 1900 to 1936 — as long as they conducted their criminal shenanigans elsewhere.

Notorious gangsters like John Dillinger, Al Capone, “Babyface” Nelson, Ma Barker, Alvin Karpis, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow all made Minnesota stops.
On December 4, 1928, Dapper Dan got behind the wheel of his Paige coupe and turned on the ignition. A bomb located beneath the floorboards detonated and blew off his right leg. He slipped into a coma at the hospital and died nine hours after the blast. Although the murder is still considered unsolved, declassified FBI files reveal that the most likely person responsible was Harry Sawyer, Hogan's underboss.

Ferdy Sambo

Officials in Jakarta busted one of the National Police’s top cops for the revenge shooting of a subordinate. General Inspector Ferdy Sambo is a suspect in the shooting of his driver who was involved romantically with Sambo’s wife. The shooting and its aftermath have riveted the Indonesian public. National police operate in Indonesia with almost complete impunity. Sources said that junior officers had been ordered to trample the murder scene, that a CCTV camera disappeared and other attempts were made to obliterate evidence.
Most Indonesians regard a visit from the police as a pending shakedown.
Some 25 cops, including Sambo, were removed from their positions. A western expert states “The police have been a hindrance to business and growth for decades. This scandal is very important in setting a tone of accountability. It is long overdue."

How Russia buries its Mafia kingpins

Standing over their graveyards full of commoners and clad in black marble, Russian Mafia bosses remind visitors that, even in death, they have status.
Mobster Andrei Golubev was assassinated in his luxury SUV in Sochi, 2009.

Vladimir Oganov guards the Moscow Armenian cemetery
Photos show the final resting places of Russian gangsters and criminals, surrounded by intricate statues and floral arrangements. The Russian Mafia can trace their origins back to the Imperial Russia of the 1700s, where they were regarded as folk heroes for stealing from the rich and establishing a 'code of conduct' among each other. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 helped them rise to unimaginable heights to exploit the Russian economy.
Many of the Russian oligarchs who became rich during this period have critical links to Russian mobsters.

Today, factions of the Russian Mafia are involved in drug smuggling, money laundering, prostitution and countless other criminal ventures. They are often regarded as some of the most dangerous organized crime groups in the world.

Cop sting no defence against extradition

Cops set up Wayne Steven Hollaus with a suitcase containing 26 kg of what he thought was cocaine. Hollaus wasn't the direct target of the DEA. That would be frequent flyer HA David 'Nick' Oliynyk. Hollaus's lawyers cried the ruse "tainted" his rights. They argued other Charter violations, and said he should have been informed of the U.S. investigation. Lawyers also argued his arrest was unlawful. Ultimately, the court sided against him and dismissed the appeal. The trio of judges said there were reasonable grounds for the arrest given what police knew at the time: he'd picked up a suitcase that he thought was full of cocaine. Oliynyk also argued abuse of process, criticizing heinous conduct by cops. He too lost on all fronts in June and is US bound.

Gary 'The Canary' Carey

Gangster Gary 'The Canary' Carey, 41, died after being shot five times as he sat in his car in the car park of the Hilton Hotel in south Dublin on Friday June 24. It was the third time enemies of the drug dealer had attempted to kill him in the last two years. Brian 'King Ratt' Rattigan’s mob emerged as suspects but cops have not ruled out the major Dublin drug dealing group known as 'The Family'.
Rattigan was released from prison last year following an 18-year stint for killing Kinahan cartel pal Declan Gavin in 2001. Gardai suspect Carey may have been targeted by 'The Family'. The west Dublin mob — who run one of the biggest drug-dealing networks in Ireland — have been involved in a feud with ‘The Canary’ for the last decade.

New York preacher robbed of bling, live - update

Whitehead is offering a $50k reward for return of his family jewels. He served five years at Sing Sing and was released in 2013.
'Bishop' Lamor Miller Whitehead held a press conference and demanded clergy carry weapons. He says the heist was an attempt by Satan to thwart his ministry. The bishop's past troubles have resurfaced since the robbery made headlines. A congregant has accused him of stealing $90k, and records reveal scores of unpaid court judgments. Whitehead filed for bankruptcy after being convicted of 17 counts of fraud in 2008.
Preacher Lamor Whitehead, 44, is known for his opulent lifestyle. He was robbed of more than $100k in jewellery during a livestreamed sermon in New York. He vowed that the basterd sinners "won't get away with it" Among the items taken from the Rolls Royce driving clergyman was a $75k Rolex, Cavalier watches, a $25k ruby, a diamond ring and a $25k pair of earrings - and his wedding band.
In the video Whitehead is asking "How many of you have lost your faith because you saw somebody else die?" Moments later several gunmen clad in black entered the church in Brooklyn.
Much reeks with the 'bishop', including his claims of losing $1m in jewels. He says they were insured. We say we know a conman when we smell the stench of one.

The robbery occurred when the high-security vehicle pulled over on its way from one gem show in San Mateo to another in Pasadena outside Los Angeles. Robbers made off with a massive haul that included diamond, sapphire and gold jewellry, as well as a horde of Rolex, Cartier and Franck Muller luxury watches.
